you will soon be able to make contacts within the app

You know it: you have to WhatsApp someone who you shouldn’t be in your contact list, but you can’t. Someone must necessarily be in your phone’s contact list for that to happen. At least it was. The beta of WhatsApp shows that you will soon be able to create and edit contacts within WhatsApp.

Add contacts directly

WABetaInfo dived into the new beta and found out that the feature is coming. The feature works with the following versions of WhatsApp: 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5 and 2.23.8.6. Although it is not certain that when you have those versions, you also have the function.

Hopefully so, because it’s a possibility that many WhatsAppers have been waiting for for years. No more hassle of having to add someone to your contact list before he or she pops up in WhatsApp. Just being able to add someone directly in WhatsApp and start your conversation, that’s just that little bit easier. Soon you will be able to immediately add someone in WhatsApp itself and you will no longer have to deal with the contacts app that comes standard with your smartphone.

In the new situation it works differently. WhatsApp will soon put the contact in the contact list in the background and you enter data in WhatsApp, so no longer outside. That saves a lot of Marktplaats contacts or Tinderers who sneak into your contact list on your smartphone, while you only need them for WhatsApp. The new option has been spotted in the Android version of WhatsApp, so whether and how it will come to iOS is still unknown.

We expect the new feature within WhatsApp in a few months. But if you haven’t dropped out of the beta yet (which has had some technical issues lately), you might already be able to.
