123456 or simply password: everyone knows the classic password fails, which are as secure as the next Deutsche Bahn delay. However, there is a notable newcomer in the ranking of insecure passwords: Samsung.

Samsung as a password is becoming more and more popular

Or more precisely: “Samsung”, i.e. all lowercase. The brand name, according to a study in over 30 countries, is now one of the most popular passwords ever (via SamMobile). Last year, the holey password ranked 78th and thus in the top 100 for the first time. A year earlier it was ranked 189th, in 2019 it just made it into the top 200. A clear upward trend can therefore be seen.

The increasing spread should largely to the account of Samsung users. However, owners of a Samsung smartphone or Samsung television should not make this mistake. Short passwords without numbers, special characters and a combination of upper and lower case are considered to be very vulnerable. Professionals can crack them in a few moments.
