WhatsApp gets new features at regular intervals. This time it’s different, however, as WhatsApp has no choice but to remove a feature for desktop users. This is the result of a decision that the company made for smartphones.

WhatsApp removes feature in desktop apps

We usually report that WhatsApp is getting new features and is being improved as a result. This time we have to inform you that WhatsApp for desktop is losing a feature. As of November 1, 2022, you will no longer be able to view or send self-deleting messages. You just can’t see the messages anymore on the desktop version of WhatsApp for PCs and Macs. WhatsApp only informs you that you have received a self-deleting message and can only view it on your cell phone (source: WABetaInfo).

The removal of the ability to view self-deleting messages on desktop follows a recent blockade on smartphones. There you can no longer take screenshots of self-deleting messages. Since this cannot be prevented on the PC or Mac, WhatsApp has now decided to simply remove the function completely. This is how WhatsApp protects you from unwanted consequences. If you have received such a message, you must open it on your smartphone and look at it.

WhatsApp soon no longer free?

As Meta’s numbers continue to deteriorate because of the Metaverse, teams are said to be looking to monetize WhatsApp. We are looking for ways to compensate for the expensive purchase. Mark Zuckerberg personally asked for this. We currently do not know what WhatsApp will cost and whether this will really affect end customers and not just business customers. Such a push has already been made with WhatsApp Premium. It will be exciting to see if anything moves in that direction.
