WhatsApp is working on avatars for video calls
Video calling has become a much more important part of society in recent years. At least since the pandemic, you could use it to stay in touch with friends and family, even though you couldn’t face each other physically. WhatsApp has increased the number of participants in video calls suggestively and is now planning new features. So you can soon turn into an avatar instead of being seen in the video call themselves (Source: WABetaInfo).
Exactly like Apple’s Memojis on the iPhone you will soon be able to transform yourself into an animated avatar in WhatsApp. This should then take over the movements and facial expressions from you and represent them yourself. So if you don’t want to be seen in a video call, but still want to show your emotions somehow, then that would be a good solution.
The new function was discovered in a beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, but cannot be used at the moment. When the feature is officially released, then it will work on all devices. So both on Android, iOS and certainly also on the web, if you have connected a webcam to your PC, for example.

According to WABetaInfo, the avatar feature for WhatsApp is still in a very early stage of development. So it may be weeks or months before the feature is unlocked for everyone. This is definitely a more demanding function that requires more work accordingly. At the end of the day, the function has to run properly in order to be used.
