Xiaomi to partner with Leica for smartphone camera
New clues have surfaced about Xiaomi’s partnership with a camera manufacturer. The brand would like to collaborate with Leica. Huawei has previously worked with the brand.
Xiaomi and Leica collaboration
Many smartphone brands collaborate with camera manufacturers. To be quite honest; in practice we see it more as a marketing ploy than you really see a lot of changes in it. In May last year, news appeared that camera manufacturer Leica would be working with Xiaomi. The news has been quiet in recent months, but now there are signs of it again. Previously, Huawei already worked with Leica; however, that came to an end because of the American sanctions.
The clues now found at Xiaomi have been discovered in the gallery’s editing app. In translation files, clues have surfaced that are related to the collaboration with Leica. This includes editing tools and Leica filters. It seems to be about preparations and not yet the final implementation.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is rumored to be Xiaomi’s first smartphone with the Leica branding. It is not yet entirely clear when Xiaomi will partner with Leica and when the announcement will be made official.
Several brands work with camera manufacturers. For example, Oppo and OnePlus work together with Hasselblad, Nokia with ZEISS and Sony has its own sensors.
