Xiaomi may slow down charging on smartphones with a non-genuine battery

It is no secret that the Chinese brand Xiaomi has been inspired by Apple since its inception. According to the portal XDA-developers took another thought from this American giant and warns the user of a non-original battery in a smartphone. In addition, he reportedly plans to slow down its rapid charging.

Apple, in the event of a battery replacement at a non-certified service center, does not allow the iPhone to monitor the health of the battery and alerts the user to the non-genuine battery with several annoying notifications. She is often criticized for this step, arguing that she is just trying to get more money from customers due to more expensive battery replacements in certified services.

Chinese Xiaomi goes even further in this. The changes were discovered by members of the XDA community in the latest version of Mi Security. If there is a non-original battery in the smartphone, a notification will appear to the user requesting that it be replaced by an authorized service center. All this with the warning that the use of a non-original battery can damage the device, which could indeed happen. The portal also published screenshots with this warning.

The alert is currently only displayed on Chinese models

By community XDA this notice is only active on Xiaomi smartphones for the Chinese market. Specifically, these should be Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones. Slovak customers do not have to be afraid of new alerts. Only if they bought the device from a Chinese online store that distributes smartphones to Europe.

According to the portal’s findings, Xiaomi could even limit the charging speed of a non-genuine battery. However, it is not known how much charging would be limited. So far, all these changes only apply to Chinese customers. However, the portal asked Xiaomi whether it planned to introduce this warning in facilities on the European market.
