Read on after the ad.

This is new after WWDC 2022

The WWDC 2022 (Worldwide Developers Conference) keynote was packed with new features. Already during the first day of this software conference, Apple announced macOS 13 Ventura , iOS 16 and watchOS 9 among others. In addition, a new MacBook Air 2022 with the new M2 chip was also shown.

In our WWDC 2022 aftertalk video we show all the new features in understandable language. Today, in this latest installment, we’ll discuss the iPadOS 16 innovations from WWDC 2022.

iPadOS 16: Freeform and finally a Weather app

iPadOS 16 is kind of a hybrid of iOS 16 and macOS 13 Ventura. However, the software is fully optimized for the iPad’s large touchscreen. This version mainly focuses on collaboration. For example, you can work on one document with someone at the same time. You can also use FaceTime in that same file.

It was also announced at WWDC that iPadOS 16 will add a new app: Freeform† This is a digital whiteboard on which you can draw and write with other iPad users. Ideal for remote brainstorming sessions. Especially if you use it in combination with a video call.

There has been a discussion for years about missing an official Weather app on the iPad. It’s really weird that this app wasn’t there yet. Now with iPadOS 16 in any case! At first glance there is not much new under the sun, because it resembles the version we see on the iPhone. It’s just a bit bigger, but it gets all the new features that the weather app has gotten on the iPhone. However, there is still no calculator app on the iPad.

Work faster with Reference Mode and Stage Manager

‘Reference Mode’ is a very handy new feature. This reference color app keeps the same colors on the screen when you open a file on multiple devices. The color schemes you use are therefore remembered. Stage Manager is also available for some iPads, but your tablet must have an M1 for it. We already know Stage Manager from macOS 13 Ventura and it turns your iPad into more of a computer.
