Google Pixel tablet

Google last launched an Android tablet with the Pixel C in 2015, but now something new is up and running with the Pixel tablet. The device is a full-fledged Android tablet with Android 13 and a smart display in one. According to Google, the device should serve as a bridge between your life on the road and the experiences you have at home.

The Pixel tablet will soon work with a 10.95 inch screen and will work on the second generation of Google’s Tensor chipset. The tablet is available in a model with 128 or 256 GB storage. On the back you will find the magnetic connection that makes contact with its speaker socket, which is available separately. Once you dock it, it works as a full-fledged smart display like the Nest Hub. It listens to voice commands and you can cast content via the built-in Chromecast.

Tap to Transfer

A new form factor also calls for a custom interface for when it’s docked. For example, if you swipe up from the bottom of the screen on the tablet, you’ll see a row of web apps above the settings bar. Then from there you can open a grid of full-screen icons, like a launcher but with shortcuts. In addition, Google added a Gboard-style keyboard to the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max last year.

The Tap to Transfer feature, part of Android 13, can also be found on the new tablet. If you play music on a phone, you can transfer the sound to a smart display or smart speaker by holding your phone close. This works via ultra-wideband and that is a technology that can also be found in Google’s new smart display.

Without Hey Google

The Pixel tablet also works with a selfie camera that you can use to make video calls via Google Meet. In addition, the tablet also uses its camera for the Look and Talk function that previously worked for the Nest Hub Max. You can give commands to the tablet by looking in its direction and just talking. With its camera, the Pixel tablet knows the message is meant for it.

When not in its dock, the Pixel tablet works like a normal tablet with Android 13. That is, it supports the many improvements that Google has introduced especially for tablets and foldables for tablets with Android 12L and Android 13. the taskbar for multitasking and the handy gestures that let you quickly open multiple apps at once in a split-screen view. We have already been able to extensively test many of these functions with a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Pixel C

It’s been more than seven years since Google last released an Android tablet, and that was the Pixel C, which came out with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In our review we were quite satisfied with the product, only we noticed that Android 6.0 is less pleasant to use on a large screen than you would like. That issue may have been fixed with Android 13 and the Pixel tablet. What do you think about the Pixel tablet? Let us know in the comments.
