Want to automatically let your friends know you’re on your way? Or do you want to meet your parents at a certain place? Then the ‘share location’ function in Google Maps will certainly come in handy. Google has made it really easy to turn this option on and off on your iPhone.
Keep in mind that you have location sharing turned on, otherwise the function will not work. You do this in ‘Settings > Google Maps > Location’. Set the option here to ‘When using the app’ or ‘Always’. You must also have a Google account to use this feature.
There are several ways in which you can share your location live, but the easiest is to do this from the Google Maps app. As soon as you turn on the function, the invitees will see your photo appear in a circle on the card.
How to set up location sharing
By sharing your location with a friend’s, it’s easy to meet somewhere. You simply walk towards each other on the map and see exactly how long it will take until the other person is with you. To share your position in Google Maps, perform the following actions.
Share location in Google Maps on your iPhone.
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile at the top right;
- If necessary, log in with your Google Account and tap ‘Share location’;
- Tap (the first time) on ‘Share location’ and set the time duration under ‘Share your real-time location’;
- Choose ‘More options’ at the bottom;
- You can now send your location to your friends, for example in WhatsApp, Telegram or via Messages.
Your location is now shared live with the invited people. Google Maps will automatically stop sharing the location when set time is up. To stop sharing location immediately, tap ‘Share via link > Stop’ in Google Maps.
