With Fairphone Easy you rent a Fairphone 4 for a fixed amount per month
Fairphone is launching a new service called ‘Fairphone Easy’. With Fairphone Easy you can rent the Fairphone 4 for a fixed amount per month. You can choose from four different subscriptions that vary in price from 21 euros to 34 euros per month.

Borrow a smartphone
Fairphone reports in a press release that they are starting a pilot today called ‘Fairphone Easy’. With this service, the Dutch smartphone maker wants to offer the Fairphone 4 for a fixed amount per month. In this subscription you get the green Fairphone 4, with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM, ‘on loan’. You get various protective accessories such as a screen protector and a case. You also get a free repair service from Fairphone. If something is broken on your device, you can have it repaired for free. Fairphone hereby promises that you will receive a replacement phone during the repair period. Or, as Fairphone nicely puts it: “Should your phone break, we’ll swap it for you within 48 hours.”
Incidentally, you should see Fairphone Easy as a kind of loan agreement or as a private lease. So the smartphone will never really be yours. After your subscription period has ended, you have to return the smartphone to Fairphone. They then promise that the parts of your returned device will be recycled or reused. You can also choose to extend or change your subscription. According to Fairphone, with Fairphone Easy you really start a change. Because in addition to choosing a fair and sustainable smartphone, the company hopes that you contribute to a circular economy. Fairphone itself says that they “want to show us that the way we make and use products can be changed.”
Extend average phone life
An important part of Fairphone’s pursuit is the longevity of the smartphone. The longer you use your device, the smaller the ecological footprint and the less waste of, for example, smartphone parts and raw materials. In the press release, Fairphone elaborates on this and states that they want to extend the average lifespan of telephones to five years. They state the following: “By providing a service where we can maintain, repair and recycle the phones for consumers, we ensure that we limit e-waste and are able to reduce CO2 emissions… We ensure that the smartphone ‘lives’ by refurbishing it and giving it to a new user, or by reusing parts to repair another phone.”

Fairphone Easy can be used from now on and can be found via this link. The prices are as followed:
- Subscription three months, 34 euros per month
- Subscription twelve months, 29 euros per month
- Subscription 36 months, 24 euros
- Subscription 60 months, 21 euros per month.
