With e-bikes to new successes

The e-car manufacturer Rivian no longer wants to be content with just electric SUVs. In the future, e-bikes are to expand the product range of Tesla’s competitor. The US company already employs a real e-bike expert. But there are still many unanswered questions.

After e-cars: Rivian plans e-bike production

So far, Rivian is best known for its two e-SUVs. With the Pickup R1T and the plug-in SUV R1S the Californian company has two e-cars on offer, with which it wants to assert itself against the strong competition from Tesla and other manufacturers. Now there are many indications that e-bikes will also be offered in the future. Corresponding rumors have been around for a long time.

According to reports, Rivian boss RJ Scaringe has already explained his ideas internally (source: Bloomberg). One small group of engineers should already be dealing with the topic, but specific details have not yet been made public. So it is still unclear what the Rivian e-bike will look like and what performance it will offer.

For the development of an e-bike, Rivian has a real expert in its ranks. In the summer of 2022, Chris Yu, former technical director of the bicycle manufacturer Specialized, switched to the company. He works there as vice president for future programs.

Should Rivian actually attack with an e-bike, the step would come at an unusual time. Just a few days ago, Tesla’s competitor announced that it would be separating from employees again. The Workforce is to be reduced by 6 percent become. It is the second major job cut in 12 months.

Rivian wouldn’t be the only automaker doing that E-bikes as a new business area recognized. In March 2001, Porsche introduced two models, Hummer followed with an all-wheel drive e-bike. The Volvo subsidiary Polestar is also working on its own e-bike.
