With dad in the ball pit: fathers more involved since corona time
To the (indoor) playground, the cinema, a nice walk in the woods, a museum with fun children’s activities or a family show. Since the corona period, dads are increasingly going out with the kids.
Kidsproof.nl, the largest online inspiration platform for parents, saw the share of male visitors rise sharply in and since the corona period.
Good development
Founder Annemarie Vosselman is pleased with this development. “Leisure is about doing things you like, relaxing and having fun. Going out together is important, so children learn to discover new things in the safe environment of their parents.”
Fathers’ choices are often different, says Annemarie. ”As a parent, you consciously or unconsciously choose an outing that you think would be fun for a Wednesday afternoon or weekend. When fathers are more actively involved in the leisure time, children are introduced to a wider range of activities and that is good for their development.”
But the fathers are not yet involved in all aspects. “We see that fathers mainly look for inspiration for outings and nice addresses to go out for dinner with children. Choosing children’s parties and clubs is often still the responsibility of the mothers.”
Rush hour
Parents especially look for fun tips on Wednesdays and weekends. Early Sunday morning is definitely number one. The rush hour starts early on the site. “Parents of young children in particular recognize this moment when you have been downstairs with your toddler from 6 o’clock in the morning and you still have a long day ahead of you…”
