Will the iPhone 14 Pro get an always-on display? We think so

More news about Apple’s new flagship. The iPhone 14 Pro may get the long-awaited always-on display. Read more in this article.

Last year, for the first time in an iPhone, we found a screen that refreshes 120 times per second. The iPhone 13 Pro models received this so-called ProMotion display. This not only ensures a smooth user experience, but also brings even more benefits with the right adjustment.

Ross Young, a (telephone) screen analyst, expected that these Apple screens are going to get better and that an always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro is also more realistic. It is rumored that the regular iPhone 14 unfortunately does not yet have a ProMotion screen, and therefore cannot get an always-on display. Read why in this article.

iPhone 14 Pro screen gets technical update

The big difference between the 120Hz screens of the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) and the Android counterparts is the possibility of reduction in frequencies of this screen. The phones that run on Android can drop to 1 Hz (one image per second!) and thus save a lot of battery. This is useful for mostly still images such as what can be seen on an always-on display.

In the iPhone 13 Pro and the Pro Max, however, Apple’s ProMotion displays are limited to frequencies between 10 Hz and 120 Hz and cannot drop that far. But maybe this will change in the future!

Apple is already familiar with always-on technology

Young thinks Apple will upgrade the ProMotion display of the iPhone 14 Pro. Then the refresh rate could drop to that 1 Hz. This technical update would pave the way for an always-on display in the iPhone 14 Pro. In addition, your phone would use even less energy, which is good for your battery. The Apple Watch Series 7 can already do this. So it doesn’t seem impossible for Apple.

We have already received many rumors about the new iPhone 14. Unfortunately, there is no indication that we will actually see an always-on display in the iPhone 14 Pro. But sometimes Apple manages to surprise us.
