Twitter is upside down after Musk takeover
Twitter has been upside down for a while now. Since Elon Musk took over the popular social medium, all norms and values of the social network have been kicked under. Last weekend it happened again: Elon Musk banned users from linking to their profiles on other social media sites and then apologized after a deluge of objections.
Musk went on to say that major changes would be decided by Twitter Polls with a promise to abide by the outcome. A user cleverly took advantage of this announcement.
Twitter user hero of the year?
Where Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he, as CEO, no longer wanted to make important decisions himself (and therefore left it to the democratic functioning of Twitter Polls), Brianna Wu as ‘hero of the day’. She asked Musk if he could “throw a poll online asking if people want him to step down as CEO of Twitter;”
Elin Musk followed his word and asked the Twitter community if he should step down from his position. 17.5 million users voted. The end result was both striking and completely expected. 57.5% of voters thought Musk should stop running Twitter. That is a large majority of voters.
Still, we think there are quite a few here as well trolls is in between. These people don’t necessarily think Musk should resign, but still vote “yes” because they find a positive outcome hilarious. The question therefore remains whether Elon Musk will take the outcome seriously.
What is all the fuss about Twitter and Elon Musk about?
So it’s the big tech question of the week. What will Elon Musk do with this information? The CEO of Tesla and Space X does not have it easy. His pro-‘freedom of speech’ stance causes a lot of commotion. On Sunday, Elon Musk banned Twitter users from posting links to their profiles on other social media sites, such as Mastodon (an alternative to Twitter).
Mastodon did not miss the opportunity to ridicule Musk for the controversial and contradictory policies. on note Twitter posted the company: ‘As a company from East Germany, we know that building a wall to stop people is not a good idea’.
Twitter also appeared this week to have reinstated the suspended accounts of a number of prominent journalists. These were previously suspended due to ‘doxxing’. This is the online publication of personal data of an individual or organization. However, these journalists shared publicly available live locations of Musk’s plane. This made him fear an assassination attempt.
