Why you shouldn’t buy new AirPods now

Now is a bad time to buy AirPods
AirPods are insanely successful. The most recent annual figures (from 2019) show that Apple makes almost as much turnover from selling the earplugs as transport service Uber in general. The revenue from AirPods is also greater than the revenue from Spotify and Twitter combined.
It is therefore only logical that Apple releases a new version of the earbuds every so often. Rumors have been circulating for years that this moment is coming, but this September it really seems to be happening. According to several sources, you can get the AirPods 3 from the end of this year.
It is still unclear when the earplugs will be unveiled. According to website DigiTimes the new AirPods are announced together with the iPhone 13, the new Apple phone of this year. Rumor has it that this presentation will take place sometime in mid-September.
Other sources, such as Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, say mass production of the AirPods 3 will start in August. If this is correct, it seems only logical that the earplugs will be in the shops for a few weeks/months.
Patience is a virtue
Our advice is therefore simple. Can you be patient and do you not immediately need new earplugs? Then wait a little longer until the AirPods 3 are announced. We then know exactly what the new Apple earphones can do, what they have been improved in and how much it will cost.
If you are not impressed, you can still buy the ‘old’ (read: current) AirPods. In fact, by that time retailers will be upset and probably eager to sell their old stocks. This allows you to take advantage of clearance discounts.
Is it stupid to buy AirPods now? No, definitely not. There is little that can be said about the quality of the earbuds. AirPods are excellent and if you prefer not to wait with buying new earphones, don’t buy them wrong. However, if you are curious about the new generation, it is better to wait a little longer.
