TSMC starts production iPhone 13 processor

Digitimes writes that TSMC’s chip factories are producing the first copies of the A15 chip. Apple has been working with TSMC for years to manufacture its proprietary processors, so it’s no surprise that this will continue in 2021.

What is striking is the timing: Apple seems to have started production earlier, in order to avoid possible delays. Last year, the iPhone 12 series appeared later than planned due to the pandemic and production problems. By starting a little earlier this year with making the iPhone 13 processor, Apple wants to prevent this. It therefore seems that we will get an ‘old-fashioned’ iPhone release again in 2021 with an announcement in September.

The A-series chips have been one of the ways in which the iPhone distinguishes itself from the competition for years. Thanks to the close cooperation between hardware and software, Apple knows how to set a new standard in terms of speed every year. The company now also wants to use this lead with the Mac and the M1 chips.

More about the iPhone 13

Slowly but surely, more and more is becoming clear about the iPhone 13. The device would have the same appearance as the iPhone 12, but with a number of significant improvements. For example, there would be a fingerprint scanner in the screen, a narrower notch for the Face ID camera and the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max get a 120Hz ProMotion screen. This should ensure extra smooth animations.
