Home office cat owners can tell you a thing or two about it: your cat not only keeps you company at work, it has also chosen the most unfavorable place as its new favorite: the keyboard. Apparently there is a good reason for this – and a fun quick fix.

Have you set up well in your home office? And actually there is hardly anything nicer than having your cat with you in the office every day – if it didn’t have this annoying habit of always sitting exactly where you want to work: on the keyboard of your laptop.

Smarter than you thought: cats imitate human behavior

However, this is obviously not due to the fact that cats simply appreciate the warmth of the laptop, as is often assumed. Researchers at Budapest’s LorΓ‘nd University have now found outthat your furry friends will be able to sense and mimic human behavior. The house cat thus joins a relatively exclusive group: So far, only very few species have been observed that imitate human behavior. Including orcas, monkeys, elephants, dolphins and magpies – this list has now been expanded to include domestic cats. The researchers’ finding is somewhat surprising. Previously, it was thought that cats did not have the cognitive abilities necessary to intentionally mimic the actions of other living things.

Having your own workplace can help

So, taking a seat on the keyboard is basically nothing more than imitating your behavior. While you work, your cat works with you. So that it doesn’t bother you in the future, there is apparently an obvious and simple quick fix: With its own laptop, the animal has the necessary equipment for its own workplace and therefore no longer has any reason to compete with you for yours.

According to various Twitter users, a toy laptop, one made of cardboard or a broken device is also doing its job. So there is no need to throw yourself into expense because of your cat.
