Where can I find my photos from my WhatsApp?

When you view photos and videos in a WhatsApp chat, they are automatically saved to the gallery on your phone. Would you rather not? Then you can turn that off. If you really want this, then turn it on. We explain how to do this for all or individual chats and groups.

Too many WhatsApp photos in your gallery app

WhatsApp is widely used for sending photos, GIFs and videos. That’s nice of course, but these files are also stored in your photo app or gallery app on your phone. For example, it is possible that all kinds of photos of the neighborhood barbecue are shared in a neighborhood app group, which you have not attended at all. Maybe you have a friend who sends you a picture of every bar he visits via WhatsApp. All these photos end up on your smartphone and you can see them when you open the photo app. Do you want to turn this off? Hide photos and videos from group conversations

WhatsApp has enabled displaying downloaded media by default. Do you want to download the photos and videos of certain group conversations, but don’t have them in your own photo collection? Then you can adjust this in the settings of WhatsApp or the (group) chat.

This prevents photos from being saved in all individual chats and groups

1. Open WhatsApp
2. Tap on Institutions (three dots at the top right) > chats † Media Settings
3. Turn the feature on or off here
