‘When I’m going to cook I take everyone into account’

Don’t feel like nagging or enjoying the fun: these mothers sometimes turn a blind eye when it comes to their children.

Linda (41): “According to my children, four teenagers and a toddler of one, I am really a spoiled mother. When I’m going to cook I take everyone into account, even if in theory it’s ‘eat what the pot’s’. Friends are always allowed to eat or stay over. If the children want, I can easily convert the living room into a cinema.

“We have a Jan Steen household and it is always a sweet idea here”

We have a Jan Steen household and it is always a sweet idea here. The children help, friends and girlfriends too. We organize a yes-day a few times a year. Then really anything is possible. Cake for breakfast, shopping almost anything you like, eating out, eating out or gourmet, staying up late, film marathon, snacking all day, spontaneously going to an amusement park… Now it seems like we have a big bank account, but that’s not so hear. We just really enjoy the fun.”

Raid the kitchen

Mary (44): “I think it’s important that my children eat healthy, but Max (8) thinks otherwise. He scrapes food from everywhere and nowhere, especially at the end of the afternoon, when I hear creaks in the kitchen. To avoid a fight, I let him go – even if I know that he will eat too little and unhealthy at dinner afterwards. I don’t feel like nagging at that moment, especially if I’m hangry myself.”
