WhatsApp’s new attempt to monetize you
Well, the messaging service is also a commercial company. And for that, WhatsApp has found something new to monetize you.
Facebook took over WhatsApp some time ago for a huge sum. Namely 19 billion dollars, and then of course some money has to come in over time to justify this investment. This was previously attempted by placing advertisements in the chats. This was another try, but quickly fell through. No one was waiting for it and the resistance was great. Now they are trying again with something new.
WhatsApp would like to make money
Reuters reports about the new application. Several other apps and websites already have it: a business directory. But now WhatsApp is also jumping on it. The company is currently testing the feature in Brazil. The function includes all companies that have a company account with WhatsApp.
So the pizza baker, but also, for example, Shell. As a user of the service you will soon see a new tab. This one is called ‘companies in the neighbourhood’. To make it easier to find a company, they are divided into groups. Of course you also have the option to search specifically for a company. Bit of Google Maps where you can also see and find companies. They earn money because (paying) companies can be found faster. Perhaps they will come up with even more options here.
Facts
To avoid a lot of commotion, WhatsApp says it does not share the user’s location data. This would of course be very nice for companies, but unfortunately. The message service tells the message service that they do not rule out the possibility that there will be advertisements in the future. These should then appear in the chats. So the door is still ajar.
