WhatsApp lets you create 3D avatars for your profile picture and stickers

A new feature is being rolled out to WhatsApp. In the new version it is made possible to create 3D avatars. You can then use this for your profile picture or for stickers.

We already know them from Facebook and Samsung, and now they are also coming to WhatsApp: the 3D avatars. You will soon be able to create this in WhatsApp where it serves as a replacement for the profile picture. You can create an avatar that looks like you. Besides serving as a profile picture, it can also serve for family and friends to show how you are feeling as it allows you to share through your emotion. It can also provide improved privacy because you don’t have to share a photo of yourself that way, WhatsApp says.

Not only can you use the 3D avatar for your profile picture, you can also use it as a sticker and send it to others, via the familiar emoji menu, where the stickers get their own tab. You can choose from 36 different sticker styles that you can incorporate yourself into. In the future, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, wants to make further improvements. These relate to the shadows, the texture of the hair and the lighting. Nice detail; you can also share your own avatars in conversations via Instagram and Messenger and on Facebook.

The feature will be rolled out for WhatsApp from now on, but knowing the messaging service, it may take a while before everyone can use the functionality. Recently we already saw a new design with a camera button.
