WhatsApp comes as an app on the smartwatch

WhatsApp has become an integral part of many people’s lives. Now the Meta subsidiary is taking the next step: in future you will also be able to use WhatsApp on your smartwatch.

Worldwide use around two billion people monthly messenger service WhatsApp. This puts the Meta subsidiary third in the global ranking of social networks, behind sister platform Facebook and Google subsidiary YouTube.

So far, WhatsApp has mainly been available via smartphones. But users can also chat via a desktop app and a web version. But that’s obviously not enough for the Meta daughter. Because in the future WhatsApp will also be available on the smartwatch.

The new feature was presented at the Google I/O developer conference back in May. Now Mark Zuckerberg has officially announced the launch of the WhatsApp app for Wear OS.

Whatsapp comes to the smartwatch

WhatsApp has been testing the new function in beta phases for several months. The platform is now rolling out its own app for smartwatches.

The app is compatible with smartwatches running on Google’s Wear OS 3 operating system. WhatsApp is currently in the process of rolling out the new feature worldwide.

WhatsApp: what can the new app on the smartwatch do?

With the interface specially developed for smartwatches, WhatsApp users will be able to send text and voice messages in the future. It is also possible to use emojis and quick replies.

WhatsApp on the smartwatch also makes it possible to receive VoIP calls. Users do not have to have their phone with them.

The Apple Watch comes up empty

This news is likely to be a drop of bitterness for users of the Apple Watch. Because there is no separate version of WhatsApp for the iPhone group’s smartwatch.

Users can see messages and reply to them. However, this is only possible if the notifications are activated accordingly on the iPhone.
