WhatsApp adds proxy support to bypass internet blocks
WhatsApp announces to offer support for connection via a proxy server. This will be interesting for people who are experiencing blockages on the Internet.
It is now possible to connect to WhatsApp through proxy servers set up by volunteers and organizations around the world dedicated to allowing everyone to communicate freely. If you want to bring your stone to the building, Click here to learn how to configure a proxy server.
Here is what WhatsApp says:
We hope that in 2023, cuts in Internet access will no longer exist. In Iran, these cuts, which have been occurring for several months, violate human rights by preventing the population from receiving urgent aid. In the event that these outages continue, we hope this solution will help everyone access reliable and secure communication.
Connecting through a proxy server maintains the level of privacy and security offered by WhatsApp. Personal messages will always be protected by end-to-end encryption, which means that they will remain between the people communicating and no one else will be able to see them, not even proxy servers, WhatsApp or Meta (parent company messaging).
WhatsApp says proxy support is available now for anyone using the latest version of its app on iOS or Android. The option can be found in Settings > Stored & Data > Proxy
