What is Magic Eraser for in the new Google Pixel 6 smartphones?
Smartphones introduced this week Google Pixel 6 a Pixel 6 Pro they use several exclusive AI functions, which are based on the new Google Tensor chipset. The most visually interesting feature is definitely Magic Eraser. Google shoots at what it works for and what it does.
Magic Eraser erases distracting objects and characters from your photos
It has happened to almost everyone that an object or character appeared in a photo taken with a smartphone, which spoiled the scene. Such a character can distract from what you were actually trying to capture. Removing distractions from photos is not an easy task and usually requires sophisticated editing tools and time.
And it is this problem that the function wants to help Magic Eraser, which removes these distractions with a few clicks directly in the Google Photos app. You are not even limited to newly captured photos, but you can clean up all your photos. Even those that were made years ago or on smartphones of other brands.
With the help of AI, the novelty can detect disturbing influences in your photos, such as people in the background or power lines. It then suggests what you might want to remove from it. It is up to you whether you decide to delete these elements all at once or click to delete them one by one.
The selection of disturbing objects is also possible manually
You can also manually circle what you want to delete. Thanks to machine learning, the Magic Eraser function can find out exactly what you are trying to remove, so this ringing may not even be completely accurate. The new function then uses machine learning again to predict what pixels would look like if the object were not there.
The feature will be available in Google Photos on Google Pixel 6 smartphones, which will go on sale on October 28. Therefore, a smartphone with a Google Tensor chipset, which uses its own image processor, is required. It is not known whether Magic Eraser will eventually be available for smartphones with other chipsets.
