What if your iPhone home button is broken?
Panic! The home button of your iPhone no longer responds to anything. Repairing is the best option, but luckily you can still use your device. That is how it works.

Such a physical home button is very handy, until it breaks. In that case you can run to the store to repair the button (for a lot of money), but you can also continue to use the device. To do this, turn on the well-hidden Assistive Touch function. Editor Wouter shows how it works in the video below.
Did you follow all directions? A dark gray square will now appear on your screen. When you press this you will get several options. For example, tap ‘Home’ to go directly to your home screen. The handy thing about Assistive Touch is that the function always remains on your screen. You can also move the box very easily, for example if it gets in the way of an app.
Admittedly, Assistive Touch isn’t ideal. It is a means to still use your iPhone with a broken home button, but for many people it is not a sustainable alternative. You will probably have to have your home button repaired in the long run, or buy another iPhone.
