What extra costs can you expect when you buy an e-bike?

By choosing an electric bicycle you contribute to a better environment (especially if you trade in the car for an e-bike), you no longer suffer from headwind and you move more. In the Netherlands, electric bicycles are responsible for 80% of the turnover of all bicycle sales.

If you want to buy an e-bike, you will have noticed that there are many different models on the market. The price for a bicycle with pedal assistance varies between 1500 euros and 4000 euros. Purchasing an ART lock

Bicycle theft is the most serious theft phenomenon of all property crimes. Unfortunately, thieves have also discovered the electric bicycle: in 2021, a total of 735 thousand bicycles and e-bikes will have been stolen. This number is based on the number of reports made to the police. In reality, this number will be even higher.

To reduce the risk of theft (as much as possible), it is recommended to use an ART lock with at least two stars. Stichting ART tests, inspects and certifies all locks sold on the market in the Netherlands.

Increasing battery capacity

The battery, together with the motor, is seen as the heart of your electric bicycle. The size of your battery depends on, among other things, the power of your engine and your driving style. Do you mostly make long and fast bike rides in a hilly environment? Then you need a larger battery. Do you mainly cycle in the city? Then a smaller battery is also fine.

If you purchase a new electric bicycle, the standard capacity of the battery is stated. In most cases this is around 300 and 400 Wh. The more power your battery has, the greater your range. Maintenance service

During a service, the pressure of the tires, the design of the steering wheel, bolts and nuts, brakes, gears and bearings, the tension of your chain, cables and spoke, lighting, battery and software are checked, among other things. Taking out insurance for your e-bike is not mandatory in the Netherlands. We do recommend that you do this. You insure against both theft and damage. The price you pay for taking out your insurance depends on, among other things, the purchase price of your e-bike and your place of residence.
