What can the portable power station do?

Energy storage is playing an increasingly important role. The aim: to store excess renewable energy so that it can be called up when needed. Such batteries are now also available for the private sector – such as the Bluetti AC200P. We have extensively tested the portable power station.

The Bluetti AC200P is a portable power station Poweroak GmbH, which originated in China. In addition to its energy storage, the company also offers foldable solar panels such as the Bluetti PV200. Like the solar mats, there are also the power stations with different levels of performance.

Portable power station Bluetti AC200P: packaging, size and first impression

With a capacity or output of 2,000 watts and watt hours, the AC200P is one of the more powerful models. The portable power station comes safely packed in a box with foam and bubble wrap.

With a size of 42 × 28 × 38.6 centimeters, the Bluetti AC200P is relatively space-saving. The weight should not be underestimated at around 27.5 kilograms. If you want to carry the energy storage over a longer distance, you should either be good at training or look for a helping hand.

Apart from the weight, the power station is easy to transport thanks to two sturdy carrying handles on the sides. As far as the material is concerned, the AC200P makes a robust and high-quality impression. The connections and the display are also convincing at first glance, but more on that later.

Scope of delivery and commissioning

In addition to the portable power station itself, the scope of delivery also includes an AC adapter and power supply unit for charging from a house socket and a 12-volt connection cable for charging from a cigarette lighter in the car. Also: A solar cable with MC4 connectors and an appropriate adapter to connect solar panels such as the Bluetti PV200.

Like almost all Bluetti products, the AC200P comes with a user manual and a warranty card. The start-up of the portable power station is very easy: by pressing the mains switch (power button), the battery storage is ready for use as soon as the indicator light turns green.

To switch the power station off again, the mains switch must be pressed for about two seconds until the operating display goes out. In order to charge the Bluetti AC200P, it is not necessary to switch it on. Because the power station switches on automatically as soon as it is connected to a solar panel, to the car or to a household socket.

Bluetti AC200P in the test: performance and experiences

The Bluetti AC200P has a maximum capacity of 2,000 watt hours to power various electronic devices. Up to 13 devices can be charged simultaneously via different connections. There are also two wireless charging pads underneath, each with 15 watts on the surface for charging smartphones.

The portable power station also has two 230 volt sockets, four classic USB-A ports, one USB-C port and four 12 volt ports with different amperages (2 x 3 amps, 1 x 10 amps, 1 x 25 amps) . Overall, Bluetti promises more than 3,500 life cycles for its battery storage.

If you discharge and recharge the power station every day, that would correspond to a service life of almost ten years. However, to ensure a long service life, the Bluetti AC200P should be charged at least every three to six months. If the capacity is not sufficient, you even have the option of using the power station with the Bluetti expansion batteries to top up

Charge to charge other devices

Meanwhile, the portable power station can be operated via an LCD touch display. The monitor also shows the charge level and potential faults. The charging time of devices is quite considerable and comparable to classic charging processes at home.

Using the supplied 500 watt power supply, a full charging process takes around five to six hours, which is significantly longer than specified by the manufacturer. However, this information relates to a capacity of six and up to 80 percent. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to test the charging process by car.

How it beats the Bluetti AC200P in combination with the foldable solar panel PV200, we will test in another post. As for charging different devices, here are a few examples:

  • Charge smartphone (10 watts): around 50 to 100 charging processes with a charging time of around two to four hours.
  • Charge laptop (60 watts): around 20 charging processes with a charging time of around one to two hours.
  • Electric grill (1650 watts): over an hour
  • coffee maker (800 watts): two hours
  • light (20 watts): 75 to 85 hours
  • TV (75 watts): over 20 hours

Conclusion and experiences: Portable power station Bluetti AC200P

In terms of dimensions and weight, the Bluetti AC200P is one of the medium-sized power stations. With its performance, the portable station is suitable both for longer camping trips and as an emergency generator for the home. The integrated carrying handles allow for transport. At around 27 kilograms, the energy storage device is no lightweight.

But the power station convinces with its numerous connections, a long service life and high energy density. The self-discharge rate is also low – at least when the device is switched off. Because in standby mode, the energy storage quickly loses two to three percent within an hour.

The performance of the AC200P is still impressive. Even without charging via solar panel, smartphones, laptops and lamps can be operated for several days. It is also possible to operate larger devices such as an electric grill, a coffee machine or even a small television.

The integrated LCD touch display provides a good overview of the battery status and charging via the incoming current. If it is very bright, however, the Minitor is difficult to read. Also a pity: In contrast to some other Bluetti models, the portable power station does not have app support.
