Lauren, Peyton’s mother, was shocked when the school called her to say, “Ma’am, did you know Peyton brought her fish to school?” The fish—which Peyton chose herself and named Mermaid—was hidden in her drinking cup. “Apparently she scooped it out of the aquarium, put it in her cup and took it to school,” Lauren said in a message to a family member.

With fish food and all

The good news: the fish is still alive. Peyton did drink from the cup while her fish was in it. “When she was drinking from her cup during recess, a teacher saw that there was something in it,” Lauren continues. The girl had completely forgotten that there was a fish in it. It’s not only a hilarious story, but also quite a cute action. Lauren couldn’t get mad at her daughter. “I opened the cup and saw that she had even put fish food in it. She is a good and responsible owner.’ But from now on, all pets will be counted before Peyton leaves home.
