We would like to see these cool Android 12 features in iOS 16

Apple has sent out the invitations to its WWDC event on June 6. That means good news: iOS 16 is coming! We secretly hope that Apple will be inspired by a number of Android 12 features. You can read which features these are here.

Read on after the ad.

Android 12 features that would go well with iOS 16

iOS and Android are two different operating systems. Yet there is overlap; both Google and Apple are regularly inspired by the other. That may feel like cheating, but the statement ‘better well stolen than badly conceived’ is not just there. We encourage different manufacturers to learn from each other. And by that we don’t mean indiscriminate copying of each other.

In the past, Apple has often drawn inspiration from its Android competitors. Think of iPhones with large screens, Control Center and the notification panel. Google was inspired by Apple’s so-called gesture based interfacewhich made its appearance with the arrival of the iPhone X.

The great thing about these ‘stolen’ features is that both companies put their own spin on it. That way, mobile software just keeps getting better, whether you choose an iPhone or an Android smartphone. In this article we list four Android 12 features that we would like to see in iOS 16.

Privacy Dashboard would make iOS 16 more privacy-oriented

In the Privacy Dashboard of Android 12 you can see all permissions per app from the past 24 hours. For example, the feature indicates which apps have access to the microphone, location or camera. This way you can be sure that you are not being watched or eavesdropped on.

App developers can specify exactly why they want access to specific features. In this way, users determine without any effort whether or not they give permission for this. Do you want to adjust specific permissions? For example, stop an app from accessing the microphone? Everything is possible.

Apple pays a lot of attention to privacy. That is why we find it striking that the manufacturer does not yet offer a similar iOS function. With any luck, we’ll see a similar Apple-style Privacy Dashboard at the upcoming WWDC event.

Material You, but Apples

One of the spearheads of Android 12 is Material You. The feature makes your smartphone a lot more personal. Android 12 uses the colors of your background to generate unique color palettes. You can then see those color palettes in the system settings, Google apps and apps from developers. This makes everything feel like a whole.

It remains difficult to adjust iOS to your own taste. The software already looks very sleek, of course, but practically everyone with an iPhone has more or less the same home screen. For people who like to express themselves creatively, this is a nightmare. We hope Apple finally pays a bit more attention to this in iOS 16.

Scrolling screenshots save a headache

A small feature, but oh so useful: scrolling screenshots. If you take a screenshot of a conversation with your Android smartphone, you will be given the option to scroll down. This way you have the entire conversation or the entire page on one screenshot. You don’t have to send five different images, as it works on the iPhone.

Auto-rotate screen based on face recognition

Does your screen ever rotate automatically when you lie on your side in bed? Mega-irritating. iOS offers a switch to lock your screen orientation, but what if it automatically adjusts to your position? In Android 12 this happens. The image does not automatically rotate if your Android smartphone notices that you are lying on your side.

Do you turn the smartphone to watch a video in landscape mode, for example? Then Android 12 understands that the image has to run. A very handy feature, which we would like to see in iOS 16.

More about iOS 16

We will know exactly which features iOS 16 will receive after Apple’s WWDC event on June 6. So very exciting. Rumor has it that the new iPhone software will have a redesigned design. The last time iOS was completely redesigned was in 2013. iOS 16 would get a fresh new lock screen, with changed app icons and smarter notifications.

Widgets in iOS 16 are also reportedly getting a makeover. From iOS 14 it is possible to place widgets on the iPhone home screen, but so far they are not very interactive. iOS 16 could change that, according to leaked iOS 16 features.
