We have waited a long time for a smartphone like this
Nokia fans had to wait two long years for a new flagship smartphone from their favorite brand. But it should be ready by the end of November at the latest. This is what a manager from HMD Global promises. Whether Samsung, Xiaomi and Co. really have to fear depends on whether old mistakes are repeated.
It has become quiet around Nokia. After a brilliant comeback, which was probably mainly due to the nostalgia factor, brand owner HMD Global got bogged down in a mass of mid-range smartphones with a barely transparent naming scheme. In contrast, the smartphone world has been waiting for a new Nokia flagship for more than two years.
Nokia flagship smartphone: Manager promises presentation before November 11th
That should now to be officially launched before November 11th, as a manager from HMD Global has now revealed in China (source: Weibo via Gizchina). The date was not chosen by chance: November 11th is the so-called “Singles Day” – a big shopping day in the People’s Republic, which is also finding its way more and more into Germany. Apparently, HMD Global is hoping that a launch before Singles Day will provide an additional boost to sales for the still nameless flagship smartphone.
It is not yet known what technical equipment the new Nokia flagship will use to attract customers. Only the support of the fast 5G cellular standard seems to be assured, as this was explicitly addressed by the HMD Global Manager. The last top smartphone from the manufacturer, the Nokia 9 PureView, wanted to score primarily with its Zeiss camera. Despite the big name, the Nokia phone did not manage to stand up to the top dogs in cameras around Huawei, Samsung and Apple.
In this Video let’s explain why smartphone cameras have become so good:
Nokia’s “flagships” have made compromises
In addition, the question arises what does HMD Global define as a “flagship”? The last two smartphones that fell into this category were the Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 8 Sirocco mentioned above. HMD Global also announced a price at flagship level for both, but technically the devices could not keep up 100 percent with the competition and always made one or more compromises. Both Nokia smartphones were therefore not particularly successful. It will be exciting to see whether the new “flagship” from Nokia will also go this way.
