We have underestimated the demand for the PS5, admits Sony -apkrig
There is no doubt that last night belonged to Sony. Representatives of the Japanese company first confirmed that they had already started developing the second generation PlayStation VR, and subsequently the president of the gaming division Jim Ryan announced the postponement of Gran Turisma 7 for next year, along with interest in continuing to release earlier exclusive titles for PlayStation. However, Ryan gave more interviews and in another of them – namely for The Washington Post – he commented on the lack of PS5 consoles on the market. However, the often mentioned problem does not have an easy solution and Jim Ryan’s words do not seem too reassuring – customers with pre-orders can wait for their console until the end of this year.
The first man on PlayStation indicated that production is gradually gaining momentum and the situation is said to improve every month.
“Demand was higher than we expected,” Ryan openly admits in an interview. He explains that, combined with the complexity of the whole production process, they eventually had fewer consoles than they originally intended and that the shortcomings seem to be catch up for some time. On the other hand, the first man on the PlayStation indicated that production is gradually gaining momentum and the situation is said to improve every month. As for the specific numbers, Sony estimated in early February this year that it could send less than 15 million units to stores during the 2022 financial period (April ’21 – March ’22), but in another interview with the Financial Times, Ryan was more cautious and spoke in non-specific level with a significant amount produced mainly in the second half of the year.
When asked if all pre-orders will be processed by the next Christmas season, the president of PlayStation was unable to answer and rather avoided the remark that there was only very limited number of magic wandswith which you can wave and solve the problem. But he promised that customers would feel an improvement every month, which is really starting to show. At least foreign stores are suddenly announcing new deliveries, and your occasional comments show that the console is gradually reaching those who pre-ordered it last year. Ryan also hopes that the situation will soon allow stores to open so that consoles no longer have to be sold exclusively online, which he believes could at least partially resolve a conflict with resellers and scalpers who buy consoles in large quantities and then sell them with much higher price to honesty, who did not get the standard way.
Last but not least, it is necessary to point out fairly that not everything is in the power of Sony or Microsoft. Because both next-generation consoles rely on AMD’s APUs, the indisputable part of the production chain lies on the shoulders of this company. And since AMD has previously reported that it will have its own production problems, especially in early 2021, due to a lack of components, we are spinning in a circle from which all interested parties can take time.
