‘We have to pay attention in this expensive time’

‘I will spend less money on December gifts this year’, was the Kek Mama statement last week. Opinions on this are divided, according to the hundreds of responses.

Because where one really tries to cut costs, the other does not think the festive month is the right time for this. A small selection:

  • Daphne: ‘Every year I try to keep it somewhat low budget. We only celebrate Sinterklaas with presents.’
  • Linni: ‘I think it’s pretty much the same with me. We always try to keep it cheap and fun.’
  • Jaimy: ‘No more. Our son is now 4. He is much more aware of what is really happening and I like to buy Montessori, responsible and solid toys.’
  • Thea: ‘Last year was anti-social, haha. So we agreed to hold back this year. Everyone was in favor of the increased costs.’
  • Siska: ‘We just don’t have the financial resources for it. Fortunately, there are plenty of organizations that provide free toys.’
  • Edwin: ‘A bit the same. Two of the three children have their birthday in January, so we keep it modest, and also something useful every year, such as pajamas or slippers.’
  • Marina: ‘150 per child. That’s for Sint and Christmas together. They don’t even really know what they want. Our eldest also has his birthday on January 6 and the second one a month later. One big party, but it will cost you your kidneys.’
  • Ans: ‘Yes, they have enough too. And we will also have to pay attention in these more expensive times.’
  • Sanne: ‘I spend what I can spare.’
  • Felicia: ‘No, no different than always: there are lots and lots of gifts on Christmas Eve. it’s only once a year so I don’t make a fuss about it.’
