We had to wait 21 years for that

The dream of millions of Star Trek fans becomes reality, because in just a few days the entire crew of the Starship Enterprise will be reunited. If you want to be there, you only need Amazon Prime Video or alternatively access to Paramount+.

The wait is over, because on Friday February 17thstarts the Third and unfortunately last season of “Star Trek: Picard”. This time not only on Amazon Prime Video, but also on Paramount+ with a new episode every week. To explain: Since the deal between Amazon and Paramount or CBS is older than the streaming newcomer, Prime Video can and will of course also be able to show the 3rd season (view Prime Video).

Picard – Season 3: Reunion with the crew of the Enterprise

The special thing about the 3rd season: For the first time in 21 years, there is the entire Star Trek: The Next Generation crew reunited. Previously, seasons 1 and 2 only featured individual comrades. But now they’re all there: LeVar Burton as La Forge, Michael Dorn as Worf, Jonathan Frakes as Riker, Gates McFadden as Crusher, Marina Sirtis as Troi, Brent Spiner as Androide Lore, Data’s “bad brother” and of course, too Patrick Stewart as Picard. The ensemble was last reunited for the team’s final theatrical appearance in 2002 – Star Trek: Nemesis. But actors from the two previous seasons are also there, such as Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd.

But should fans really tune in without hesitation? The streaming series “Picard” has so far left a rather shared echo. The critics at Rotten Tomatoes, for example, were impressed by the quality. Season 1 and 2 were able to convince 86 and 85 percent respectively. The viewers saw it differently at this point and gave a sobering 52 or even only 27 percent. The picture on the IMDb is a bit more balanced: Overall, it is enough for the series for 7.3 out of 10 points.

The professional critics could have a look in advance and are 100 percent at Rotten Tomatoes convinced of the 3rd season. Ergo: The hope is great and maybe the doubters among the fans will return in the third season. In many places it has already been said that the 3rd season should have been the 1st season. Translated: Season 1 and 2 should be forgotten quickly.

Showrunner is a big Star Trek fan

Well then, at least the showrunner Terry Matalas has been on board since season 2 and took over the job from Michael Chabon at the time. Matalas is now allowed to contribute even more, wrote the screenplay for the first and last episode and is also in the director’s chair for the grand finale. A real fan, as he is in the book, because “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was, according to his own statements, one of his favorite series when he was a teenager – a good sign, we think.
