Which AirPods will appear in 2023?

This year, Apple finally released the second generation of the AirPods Pro. That fits within the tradition that Apple has now built, because a new pair of AirPods has been released every year since 2019. We expect a new pair of AirPods to appear next year as well. AirPods 4

It has been more than a year since the ‘normal’ AirPods received a major update. In October 2021, the AirPods 3 were introduced, which are somewhat similar in design to the AirPods Pro. The AirPods 3 were launched just over two years after the second-generation AirPods, so it’s quite possible that the AirPods 4 will appear next year.

The fourth-generation AirPods are expected to receive support for Bluetooth 5.3 and the LC3 codec. This new bluetooth update is mainly more energy efficient and ensures that data can be sent with less delay. So the new AirPods will probably get the updated H2 chip, which is also in the AirPods Pro 2.

However, you should not expect noise reduction, because that is really reserved for the Pros. In any case, our prediction is that the fourth generation of AirPods will appear on the market at the end of next year.

AirPods Pro 3

The AirPods Pro have received a worthy successor this year with the second generation. The AirPods Pro 2 have swipe controls in the stems that let you adjust the volume of your music by swiping your fingers across the stem. In addition, the AirPods Pro 2 have active noise cancellation and the new adaptive transparency mode.

A major update compared to the first generation of AirPods, so we do not expect a third generation of AirPods Pro to appear next year. The AirPods Pro 3 will most likely get a new design (without a stem?) And the case will also have to be overhauled for a USB-C output. Apple still has some time to work on this, because the new AirPods Pro will not appear until 2024 at the earliest.

AirPods Max 2

The first version of the AirPods Max was released a while ago, which makes it more than likely that the headphones will get an upgrade next year. The first generation of the headphones were comfortable to wear and have almost the same functions as the AirPods Pro with the active noise cancellation and transparency mode. However, there was criticism of the high price of the product.

The new version of the AirPods Max will have a USB-C connection and different controls. The AirPods Max are operated with the rotating crown that we know from the Apple Watch. But Apple thinks it can do better. There is talk of AirPods Max 2 with touch control. With this you can swipe or tap on the earcup to adjust the volume or change the song.

The AirPods Max 2 also get ear detection. This means you don’t have to check each time which is the left or right side of the headphones before you put them on. Our prediction is that the first-generation AirPods Max will appear in a number of new colors early next year, before handing over the baton to the AirPods Max 2 at the end of next year.
