Was the iPhone 12 mini at Apple’s fault?
The popularity of the iPhone 12 mini seems to be disappointing. Has the launch of the smaller iPhone been Apple’s fault?
The 2020 iPhone 12 line-up consisted of quite a few smartphones. The iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and the 12 mini. With the 12 mini, Apple launched -in my eyes- an interesting smartphone. The latest specifications, but not a huge phone in your hands. That is quite different with most Android flagships.
Apparently the 12 mini with its 5.4-inch display was less interesting than I thought. According to Nikkei, Apple has decided to scale back the production of the iPhone 12 mini for the first six months of this year. Disappointing sales would be the reason for this decision. According to the source, Apple sells 70 percent (!) Fewer copies of the 12 mini than they had in mind.
For the entire iPhone 12 production, this means a 20 percent decrease in the number of copies produced. Those who are interested in such an iPhone 12 mini may therefore have to trade this year. Chances are that the smartphone will not get a successor. After all, Apple is not going to make the same mistake again. And that’s a shame, because apparently smaller smartphones are just no longer popular.
