walking around will soon be nicer (and more fun)

Google has something new in store for Google Maps. With Immersive View, walking around in Google Maps becomes much more beautiful (and more fun). iPhoned show what it is.

Read on after the ad.

Google Maps Immersive View

You probably already know that you can ‘walk’ through the area in Google Maps using Streetview. You are actually browsing through several photos that have been pasted together.

Google Earth (another app from Google that allows you to visit virtually any place on Earth) goes one step further. You also get to see three-dimensional buildings of the environment. This makes it all seem a bit more realistic.

A new version of Google Maps was shown at Google’s annual I/O event. The brand new feature Immersive View combines the data from Google Maps, Google Earth and Street View.

This results in a beautiful world where you can look around and walk. This world in the new Immersive View also matches reality. This will make navigating with Google Maps on your iPhone even easier and more beautiful. After all, you can see exactly what a certain location looks like in reality.

Immersive View will soon be available on almost every smartphone

Google has indicated that the new Immersive View will work on ‘almost any smartphone or device’. The feature will be available later this year and will be seen first in the cities of Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. Other cities will follow after that. It is not yet known when it will be the turn of the first Dutch cities.

Apple Maps 3D

Apple Maps also available in 3D

Apple Maps already has a 3D view that you can use to walk around the area. It is a pity that only a limited number of cities can be seen in 3D. For example, Amsterdam and Utrecht do have this view, but cities like Nijmegen and Tilburg do not. In addition, you can also view the environment with the 3D view in some large cities abroad.
