VW’s last combustion engine is certain

At VW, there is no way around e-cars. This also marks the end of models, some of which have been part of the face of VW for decades. Brand boss Thomas Schäfer has now revealed exactly when the end is and which VW will receive the longest grace period.

VW boss sure: T-Roc will be the last new combustion engine

With the ramp-up of e-cars, combustion engines are falling behind more and more. This applies to all manufacturers who are committed to the electric car. VW is one of them and is expected to present a new combustion engine model for the last time in 2025. It should be about the Successor to the current T-Roc act.

“This year we are bringing the new one Passat and the new one Tiguannext year the Taylor and then the successor to the successful T-Roc, i.e. direction 2025“, explains Thomas Schäfer, head of the Volkswagen brand, in an interview with Automobilwoche (via Focus online).

Lease an e-car and collect an environmental bonus

The T-Roc should therefore be the last petrol engine be, which VW reissues again. After that, there is only model maintenance. Schäfer fails to mention one particularly important name: the golf. You can read what happened to the bread-and-butter model from VW in our article.

This does not say whether the compact SUV T-Roc will also be the last combustion model to be phased out at VW. But it would be conceivable, because with its orientation, the T-Roc should be for the coming years remain attractive as a potential customer favorite.

VW recently presented its concept for the small ID.2:

VW ID. 2all: e-car presented for 25,000 euros

In the meantime, however, big strides are being made in the direction of e-mobility. With the combustion engines, “we earn the money that we need for the transformation today,” Schäfer makes clear. Gasoline and diesel engines are already a means to an end to finance the switch to electric cars. Accordingly, T-Roc, but also Tiguan, Passat and Tayron should pave the way for their electric successors.

At the Passat it’s already set: The ID.7 will be the flagship of VW’s electric family and will be officially presented shortly. It is not yet clear whether the other models will be electric successors or counterparts.

Chances for combustion engines are bad, but nothing has been decided yet

Incidentally, this also applies to model planning at VW: “If the world develops completely differently by 2026 or 2027 than expected, then we can too put on a completely new vehicle. But I don’t think so,” says Schäfer.
