Using iPhone as a Flashlight: 3 Easy Ways

Are you wondering, “How do I turn on the iPhone’s flashlight?” There are three ways to use the iPhone as a flashlight. We also explain how you can dim the light of the iPhone, or make it brighter.

Read on after the ad.

Flashlight on iPhone

The iPhone has already made many products obsolete, and the flashlight is one of them. There is a light on the back of the device. This not only serves as a flash when taking photos, but also as a flashlight.

Do you want to activate the iPhone flashlight? There are several ways, but this is the fastest.

Note: the tip below only works with newer iPhones with Face ID. If you have an iPhone with a home button (Touch ID), read the ‘Activate flashlight via Control panel’ heading.

  1. Tap your iPhone’s screen to go to the lock screen;
  2. Press longer on the flashlight icon at the bottom left;
  3. The flashlight turns on; press the button again to turn off the flashlight.

Activating Flashlight via Control Panel

Do you have an iPhone with a home button, like the iPhone SE? It also has a flashlight, but you can turn it on via the Control Panel. First, make sure that the ‘Flashlight’ control is between the buttons on the Control Panel. You can customize the Control Panel by opening the Settings app and tapping ‘Control Panel’. Next to ‘Flashlight’, tap the green plus icon.

Once you have added the controller, you can also activate the flashlight via the Control Panel.

  1. Open the Control Panel. To do this, swipe down from the top right of the screen, or from bottom to top if you have an iPhone with a home button (such as the iPhone SE).
  2. Tap the flashlight button at the bottom.

Adjust flashlight brightness

What many people don’t know is that you can change the brightness of the flashlight. This way you make it even brighter, or you dim the light. That is how it works:

  1. Open the Control Panel (see previous tip);
  2. Long press the flashlight button;
  3. Swipe the slider up to increase the brightness, or down to dim the flashlight.

You can also activate the flashlight by Siri, Apple’s virtual voice assistant. Say “Hey Siri, flashlight on,” or more friendly, “Hey Siri, please turn on the flashlight.” You can also switch off via Siri, then say: ‘Hey Siri, turn off the flashlight’.
