Use the telephone symbol (✆☎☏) in Word, Mail & Co

Whether you want to beautify your e-mail signature or want to make sure that other languages understand that the sequence of numbers behind it is your telephone number: With a telephone symbol you can enter the number in Word, Mail & Co. highlight well. How this works exactly and which symbols you should use for which purposes, we show you here.

Insert telephone symbols (✆☎☏).

There are a number of phone icons and emojis on PC and smartphone. To ensure that everyone can see the symbol, you should use one of the following three Unicode characters. These have been in the Unicode directory since May 1993 from Unicode version 1.1 and should therefore be displayed correctly with almost all fonts and operating systems.

Since there are no set keyboard shortcuts for the phone icons, it’s easiest if you just pull the icons out of the copied from the table above and into the respective Insert text field. Alternatively, you can of course also insert the symbols via the character map or the special character directory of your Office program. Alternate phone icons with wingdings

For convenience, the phone icons are often placed below the font wing things recommended. However, you should be a bit careful here. Microsoft’s font is not pre-installed on every operating system, for example on Android or macOS it can result in the phone icon not being displayed or as an empty box (missing icons). Because of this, we recommend only using the Wingdings phone icon in cases where you are sure the icon will display correctly. For example, if you use it for a PowerPoint presentation or send a DOCX document for Word.

In order to be able to write the telephone symbols under Wingdings, proceed as follows:

In the text field of your Office program, write either:
- the symbol Open round bracket “(” with the key combination shift+8 for the black phone icon
- or Round brackets to “)” with the key combination shift + 9 for the handset icon
Now mark the bracket.
Finally choose the font wing things to turn the brackets into phone symbols.
