Uploader illegal films and series has to pay 15,000 euros
The BREIN foundation has caught the uploader and they have reached a settlement of 15,000 euros.
For many years now, the BREIN Foundation has been busy tracking down uploaders and downloaders of illegal films and series, among other things. Uploaders are particularly interesting, because they distribute the material. It regularly happens that an uploader is indeed caught, in this case it has come to a settlement with the BREIN Foundation.
This is an uploader and administrator of a number of illegal link sites. This person could be identified and was subsequently held liable. A settlement has been chosen to prevent the case from going to court. After all, it can be quite expensive in a lawsuit if the evidence is sound. In some cases, a settlement is more advantageous.
Nevertheless, the settlement of the BREIN foundation is substantial, the uploader has to pay 15,000 euros. Equipment with data was also seized from his home. The material is used to gather evidence to track down any other infringers. The man shared movies and series via Usenet. He also placed references to the illegal material on mock websites. Some of them were self-managed.
It is more common that uploaders run into the light. Another uploader was recently convicted who was taken to court via the BREIN Foundation. This person had to pay 5,600 euros. An investigation into compensation in that case is still ongoing.
