Update of the cult headphones with ANC and long battery life

The Beats Studio Pro can be seen as the successor to the Beats Studio 3 Wireless introduced in 2017. As with the recently announced earplugs Beats Studio Buds Plus (test), the manufacturer promises excellent interaction between the headphones and iOS and Android.

According to Beats, the new Beats Studio Pro is based on the over-ears first introduced in 2008 and their successors in terms of appearance, but the manufacturer promises modern equipment and “audio quality at the highest level”.

According to Beats, the over-ear pads of the new Studio Pro are made of “seamlessly processed leather”, which is vegan on request. The pad is said to provide “all-day comfort and exceptional durability.” The size of the headphones can be adjusted via the metal sliders and thus provide a flexible fit, according to Beats.

The sound has also received an upgrade: the 40 millimeter drivers specially developed for the headphones are said to offer an “immersive listening experience”. According to Beats, they deliver “optimal clarity […] with almost zero distortion even at high volume”. Compared to the predecessor, the manufacturer speaks of an improvement of up to 80 percent.

The frequency ranges are also to be optimized using an integrated digital processor, so that “a powerful yet balanced sound profile is created”.

The new built-in microphones are said to be voice-focused to improve call quality. The microphones also filter out background noise in order to increase the clarity of the voice. Beats speaks of a 27 percent improvement over the Studio 3 Wireless.

You can switch between ANC and transparency mode using the Beats button on the headphones. Adaptive active noise canceling (ANC) continuously monitors and filters out ambient noise in real time, according to Beats. The transparency mode can be used to perceive environmental noises.

The new headphones also support 3D audio with dynamic head tracking, but only on Apple’s platforms. The option is missing on Android and Windows devices.

Beats Studio Pro: Many functions for iOS and Android

As with the Beats Studio Buds Plus, the manufacturer also offers numerous functions for the Beats Studio Pro that can be used on both Android devices and iPhones.

On Apple’s platform, pairing can be done with a single button press. Once this is done, the connection is possible with any Apple device that is connected to the same iCloud account. The voice command “Hey Siri” is also supported, even if Beats does not use Apple’s dedicated H2 chip, but an in-house development.

Also on board is the integration into the “Where is?” network to make lost headphones traceable based on the last known connected location. The headphones can also be updated via over-the-air updates.

The latter feature is also supported via the Beats app on Android. Google’s Fast Pair for quickly connecting Android and ChromeOS devices and the “Audio Switch” feature to switch between Android, Chromebock or other compatible devices are also on board. In addition, the Studio Pro offer “Find my device” – this is Google’s counterpart to Apple’s “Where is?” network.

Beats Studio Pro with 40 hours runtime

The Studio Pro don’t have the ultra-long runtime of the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless (test), but with 40 hours they are still impressive. However, the manufacturer promises this runtime only without ANC. In ANC or transparency mode, they should still run for 24 hours.

Thanks to the so-called “Fast Fuel” function, the headphones can be recharged within ten minutes for up to four hours of playback time. No charging option? The Studio Pro can also be used without a Bluetooth connection: you can choose between a USB-C and a 3.5 millimeter jack connection.

The headphones can be controlled via the integrated controls. The “b” multifunction button can be used to control music (pause/skip/back) and make calls. To adjust the volume, just press above or below the “b” key. The multifunction button can also be used to switch between listening and EQ modes. It is also used to check battery life (via the LED lights), pairing, and power on/off.

Beats Studio Pro cost 400 euros

The Beats Studio Pro is now available from Apple in four colors: black, espresso (brown), navy (blue) and sandstone (cream). They cost 399.95 euros. Shipping and wide availability begin July 20th.
