update now or would you rather wait?
Last night it happened! iOS 16 is out for most iPhones. But should you update to iOS 16 now or would you rather wait a little longer because of errors?
Read on after the ad.
The big personal update for your iPhone
We’ve been waiting patiently for it and last night it was finally possible: updating our iPhones to iOS 16. But at the same time, the editors were also split in two. Should you update to iOS 16 now or is it wise to wait a little longer? The first major iOS updates are often full of bugs, and some of the cool new features come later anyway.
In this article, we list the benefits of both updating to iOS 16 right away and waiting for a more stable software version.
Why you should update to the new software now
We can be very brief about this. The reason to immediately update to iOS 16 is because you want to try out all the new features right away! For example, we couldn’t wait to customize our lock screen. The editors of iPhoned who have updated their iPhone to iOS 16 (as of this writing) have not encountered any issues either.
Apple’s many betas should ensure this update is secure. While iOS 16 most likely won’t bugless there won’t be any really annoying errors. In other words: just test! Are you a little afraid that all your data will be lost due to bugs? Then check our 4 handy iPhone tips before installing iOS 16.
Why you should wait to update to iOS 16
Despite the many beta tests, iOS updates are coming always with a handful of bugs. Just look at iOS 15. Fortunately, Apple often resolves these errors very quickly in the iOS 16.0.1 version. It is expected, based on the previous major iOS updates, that it will take roughly two weeks for Apple to fix these bugs.
Another big reason why you might want to wait a little longer before updating iOS 16 is the fact that not all features are there yet. For example, would you love to share your iCloud Photo Library or enhance your smart home with Matter? Unfortunately that is not yet possible. These features will most likely come in the next iOS 16 update.
A third reason for waiting to update iOS 16 is the absence of iPadOS 16 (and macOS 13 Ventura). Ideally, you would prefer to have all your Apple devices in the same ecosystem (and therefore in compatible versions). In that case, it is therefore wise to wait even until 16.1, when iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura are also out.
