UPC raises internet prices with effect from March 1, 2022. Does this apply to you?
The popular telecommunications operator UPC is raising prices. The price adjustment is valid as of March 1, 2022 and will affect 15,000 Internet customers. The prices of other operator services remain unchanged. The living.aktuality.sk portal drew attention to this topic.
At first glance, 15,000 customers may seem like a relatively high number, but this is only about 10 percent of all customers using the Internet. Customers affected by the change are currently receiving a letter or email informing them of the price increase. If you received such an email, don’t forget to let us know.
The price for UPC internet will increase by 1-2 euros
The price increase depends on the specific campaign that customers have used so far. For most, it will be adjusted in the range from 1 to 2 eur. In some cases, however, it may be a little less or more. The operator informed us that the prices for TV or telephone services remain unchanged. The price for rented equipment does not change either.
The main reason for the price increase is the rising rate of inflation, which is of course also associated with the rising costs of operating the operator. Energy prices are rising, as are services and goods in general. UPC must somehow cover these increased expenses, price increase is one of the options.
UPC spokesman Jaroslav Kolár commented for the MôjAndroid.sk editorial office as follows:
“We recognize that an Internet connection is crucial today so that we can work comfortably from home, be prepared to teach online, be in touch with loved ones, or have fun online. In order for us to continue to provide quality services despite rising inflation and the growth of all input costs, our prices have changed for some customers since March 1, 2022. We do not currently plan a general adjustment of prices, but we cannot rule out that prices for services provided (including TV services) will be corrected during the year due to a rapid increase in all input costs shaping and influencing the final price of services and products , in the case of some broadcasters by up to several tens of cents). “
Although the operator does not plan to increase prices in general, the statement states that prices for the services provided, not just the Internet, may be further adjusted during this year.
Prices are also increasing by other operators
UPC is not the only operator that increases prices. Already at the beginning of the year, the mobile operator O2 also commented, reducing the amount of the digital bonus from € 2 to € 1. For customers who have not yet used the digital bonus, the prices do not change. O2 also justified the price increase by increased costs.
“O2 customers have been able to reduce the amount of their invoices by 2 euros since the summer of 2020, regardless of the price level at which they used their services. The Digital Bonus, which motivated customers to behave digitally, serves to reduce invoices in this way. We are extremely pleased that we have strengthened our customers’ perception of the benefits of environmental behavior with this form of reward, and have also pointed out the benefits of the digital age, in which we are no longer forced to turn our homes into warehouses of price lists or accounting documents. With this step, we as a company also saved a lot of paper, which we regularly exchanged with customers. At the same time, however, we are aware that the benefits of digitality associated with saving one component of costs cannot fully replace the rise in prices of goods and services in Slovakia, which we have witnessed in recent years. This is reflected, for example, in the dramatic increase in energy prices, which are essential for the operation of mobile networks and make up a significant part of an operator’s costs. In order to be able not only to maintain the quality of the services provided, but also their further qualitative development, we had to reduce the amount of the Digital Bonus. The good news is that we will continue to motivate customers to behave digitally and environmentally, and we have decided to continue to keep the Digital Bonus. ”
