two years after its announcement, this long-awaited feature finally arrives
Windows 11 will finally welcome 3D emojis. Small emoticons are indeed deployed in some Insiders. It’s a small event, since Microsoft had promised their arrival… two years ago. Their absence at the release of Windows 11 had created a small outcry among users.
Emojis are important. It’s important to convey an emotion by message, but it also allows brands to have their own personality. Emojis at Apple are not the same as at Samsung or Google, for example. Microsoft wanted to hit hard with 3D emoticons. Two years after their announcement, here they are finally deployed.
Insider Preview program users who were able to download build 25905 were pleasantly surprised to find that the 3D emojis were present. No revolution on the horizon – these are just emojis – but we no longer expected them. They were planned for the launch of Windows 11 in 2021.
Windows 11 finally rolls out its 3D emojis
The emojis promised by Microsoft were not only in 3D, but adopted a very original artistic style, almost giving the impression of being made of modeling clay. Internet users had fallen under their spell… and the disappointment was great.

Microsoft did not keep its promise, since Windows 11 did not have the right to 3D emojis when it was released. Worse still, the Redmond firm had released new icons in a flatter 2D style, in every sense of the word. Since then, followers of 3D emojis have been crying out for their arrival. Meanwhile, Microsoft was still working on the subject, without giving further details. Finally, the patience finally paid off, since they are finally here. It was time !
It is not yet known when the 3D emojis will be available for the consumer version, but if the tests go well, they should arrive in the next few weeks. They might also book up for the big fall update expected in October.
