Twitter unveils Tomorrow, a partly paid weather service
Twitter has decided to go for local weather with its new service Tomorrow. The social network has entered into a partnership with the meteorologist Eric Holthaus to create this new platform which will be partly paid.
Initially, Twitter offered its weather service Tomorrow in a handful of US cities. We find Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas / Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, San Antonio, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington. There is also the Dominican Republic in the lot.
The weather service is made possible through the participation of 18 local meteorologists who will create free and paid content. The team will consist of around 30 climate writers and four part-time writers. The team will produce newsletters and exclusive content on Twitter through the Revue newsletter platform, recently acquired by Twitter. There will also be short-lived subscriber-specific content, such as live audio sessions via Twitter Spaces and question-and-answer services.
There will be a free offer and a paid offer. Twitter doesn’t explain exactly what the free tier will offer. On the other hand, the paid offer is already known: it will be the newsletters and questions / answers mentioned previously. The price will be $ 10 / month.
Mike Park, vice president of products at Twitter, told Axios that the weather was a “Perfect match” for the social network, as many people use the platform to track natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods. This could be particularly useful if authorities are struggling to provide important updates.
