Twitter did block third-party apps… without warning developers and users
Difficulties in accessing Twitter through third-party apps (Twitterbot for example) were therefore not caused by a bug. The Information website affirms that one of Twitter’s technical managers confirmed internally on Slack the revocation of access to the social network, which puts an end to the numerous speculations about the causes of the blocking. Another Twitter employee working in the marketing branch clarified that an official statement would be released soon. Pending explanations, the Twitter page for third-party app developers has been completely emptied, again without warning.
These clarifications did not really calm the community of developers, flabbergasted that Twitter did not think of warning them before blocking their apps. In the most total vagueness, these same developers were unable to transmit reliable information to their users, a communication fiasco which is unfortunately one of the hallmarks of Twitter 2.0 led by Musk. It now remains to be seen why Twitter has put an end to third-party apps. New fad of Elon Musk or carefully considered decision? It’s time for Twitter to speak up on the subject.
