TSMC: production in 3 nm at the end of 2022, before the iPhone 15 and Mac M3

TSMC is laying the groundwork to offer 3nm engraving for chip production in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Digitimes. The group will thus be ready for the first Macs which will have the Apple M3 chip and the iPhone 15 with the A17 chip in 2023.

3nm production arrives in one year at TSMC

The fact that TSMC can offer 3 nm engraving for the Apple M3, A17 (and others) chips will allow better performance while improving the autonomy of the devices. This is explained by the chip, which will consume less energy. In comparison, the A15 chips of the iPhone 13 and M1 Pro / Max of MacBook Pro have a fineness of engraving in 5 nm.

There have already been some leaks regarding Apple M3 chips for Macs that will arrive in 2023. Apple is reportedly able to offer processors with up to 40 cores. In comparison, M1 chip has 8 cores and M1 Pro / Max chips have 10.

We can in any case wonder what Apple will offer us in terms of performance. The M1 chip is already very good, and the M1 Pro / Max take it up a notch. But before we have the M3 chip with a 3 nm engraving, we will have the Mac M2 in 2022. All in good time.
