Once again, Netflix announces the top 10 most-watched, most popular Originals of all time. There is a surprising newcomer.
For the second time in a year, Netflix announces the 10 most popular Netflix Originals (via Deadline). In itself, little has changed compared to the list from last July. At least, with one surprising outlier. Netflix’s zombie blockbuster Army of the Dead hits the top 10 after just over a week on the service. These are the top 10 most popular Netflix Originals ever.

The top 4 hasn’t really changed since last year; everyone who wanted to see Extraction, Bird Box, Spenser Confidential and 6 Underground has seen the film. There were hardly any viewers. Murder Mystery still saw a big spike. The Old Guard and Enola Holmes are new arrivals and Project Power and Midnight Sky are also successful newcomers.
But the biggest surprise has to be Army of the Dead. According to Netflix’s estimates, the film will be viewed about 72 million times in its first month. Netflix doesn’t disclose exactly how they calculate the top 10 most popular Originals. Usually you only have to watch a few minutes to be considered a viewer at Netflix.
Anyway, it’s surprising that a zombie movie is so incredibly popular. After all, the zombie genre is usually quite niche; it’s brutal, pulpy and a little scary at times. On the other hand, the playful, slightly over-the-top approach would make Zack Snyder’s film much more appealing to the masses. Netflix has such confidence in the film that an Army of the Dead sequel is already planned.
