to choose your TV for your new next-gen console?

As you may know, the end of 2020 was notably marked by the arrival of the seventh generation of home consoles. The Xbox One and the PS4 are therefore giving way after seven years of good and loyal service to the PS5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S. If you follow the video game news, you know that the launch of the two consoles has not was a breeze, and particularly that of the PS5.

Due to extremely limited stocks, Sony’s desire to sell the console only through e-commerce sites, speculators armed with bots to buy consoles by the hundreds, and the current health crisis, it has been very, very hard to get your hands on a PS5. The situation is similar at Microsoft, the Xbox Series X is still nowhere to be found.

However, 2020 is coming to an end, and the two manufacturers have already indicated that these shortages will end at the beginning of 2021. Sony and Microsoft have accelerated their production capacity, and will therefore be able to supply many more consoles. Focus on 4K

Yes, on paper the PS5 and Xbox Series X can display content in 8K definition. As much to say it immediately, the films, series and especially the games in 8K, it is not for continuation. The real promise of these consoles remains 4K at 60/120 frames per second. Currently, 4K has become more popular and it is easy to find quality models at a lower price. Conversely 8K TVs are extremely expensive … Unless you have the necessary finances, we advise you to go to a 4K TV.

OLED or LCD?

During your research, you may find LCD or OLED models. To put it simply, know thatan OLED panel will offer better performance than an LCD panel. This is because OLED panels are made up of organic LEDs which are capable of producing their own light.

Result, the color rendering is at the top, the responsiveness, the viewing angles and the contrasts are excellent. Of course, OLED TVs are still much more expensive than their LCD counterparts. The importance of HDMI 2.1

It’s simple, it is essential to choose a TV equipped with one or more HDMI 2.1 ports. This new standard will allow you to enjoy unparalleled image and sound quality, thanks to the integration of new technologies such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) which offers a variable refresh rate to avoid image tearing.

You can also enjoy Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) which drastically reduces the input lag, that is to say the latency between the execution of a command on the controller and its execution on the screen. Finally, eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) enhances the digital audio signal, for more dynamism and clarity.

The refresh rate

PS5 and Xbox Series X deliver 4K at 60 frames per second on the vast majority of games and titles in 120 FPS will multiply in the years to come. To take advantage of this high refresh rate, you will have to invest in a minimum 120 Hz TV, and obviously equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port. One does not go without the other. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a 120 Hz television at an affordable price, you will probably have to revise your budget upwards to tick all the boxes.
