TikTok introduces new restrictions for teenagers

The TikTok platform recently introduced several measures to increase the security and privacy of teenagers who use the social network. According to Gizchin, the changes will affect users aged 13-17 and will affect push notifications, private messages and the ability to download videos from the platform.

No push notifications in the evening or the ability to send private messages

The first change concerns push notifications. After a new user between the ages of 13 and 15, they will stop receiving notifications after 9 p.m., and users aged 16 to 17 after 22 p.m. TikTok hopes to help teenagers build healthier access to social media without affecting their sleep quality. It introduced new measures on the basis of recommendations from pediatric experts and youth care advocates.

In addition, users aged 16 to 17 will be given the option to allow other users to download their videos, but will need to confirm their choice beforehand. This option is turned off for teen users and remains completely disabled for users under 16 years of age. Teenagers under the age of 16 will also need to confirm who can see the video each time they want to post a video.

The new rules will also affect the ability to send private messages. It will be automatically turned off for teen users, but users aged 16-17 will be able to activate it manually.
